Beginners guide to YouTube

Since our mail ‘partners’ from Sri Lanka just won’t reply (in fact I haven’t even got one single mail), I have decided, with some help, that I will write an essay about something entirely different.

My essay will be about YOUTUBE…. Or more specifically a few youtubers I really like to watch.

I will first introduce the YouTube rookies to what YouTube is and why it has become such a big deal to many people. YouTube was founded on the 14th of February in 2005, the creators of the site intented to make it a video sharing site and it still is to this day. The very first video titled me at the zoo was uploaded on April 23rd. Ever since then YouTube has been growing a lot and nowadays some people can’t even imagine what the internet would be like without YouTube.

Now that the introduction is out of the way I will tell about three YouTubers I think are the best people in the YouTube community. There are a lot more I like, but I don’t think I’ll be able to write about all of them, else it might take a while(probably a few months or so) to finish this.

Let’s start with Sean Mcloughin, better known as Jacksepticeye. Sean is one of the most genuine, energetic and funny YouTubers to exist. If you are on YouTube, but have never heard of or watched any of Sean’s videos then I honestly have no clue what you’re doing, in fact, just stop reading this and first go ahead and watch one(or one hundred) of his many phenomenal videos. BEWARE: do not, I recall do NOT watch his videos with headphones on the hightest volume, unless you want to blast out your eardrums… You have been warned. If you are guilty of watching his videos on full volume that’s okay, it’s an honest rookie mistake, but you’ll learn. Now I know I haven’t told you anything about his content yet but I wanted you to get to know him first before you judge him by the things he creates. Sean is known for creating video game content. I guess you can now see why I didn’t want to tell about his content before telling something about him first, a lot of people seem to think gamers on YouTube are loud and obnoxious. Sean might be loud, but he’s definitely not obnoxious. Even if his content is not your cup of tea, you should really at least give him a chance and if you don’t that’s your loss. In my opinion a good way to get to know him better is by watching his ‘reacting to your comments’ videos. This is a series in which he not only reacts to hate comments or just answers questions, he just responds to some comments people have left. Another good way to get to know not only him, but also his content would be by watching his gameplay of the game ‘Undertale’, that game is in my opinion the best gameplay he has ever done since those videos have really drawn me into being a fan of his. I won’t be telling anything about his personal life besides YouTube since I think it’s kind of irrelevant and I would rather not copy and paste from just some pages on the internet. This essay is about trying to convince people to watch these YouTubers and about proving my opinion. I don’t have a lot left to tell about Jacksepticeye that you won’t be able to find out yourself if you check him out, so I’ll stop here and leave a link here to a video of his.

 

The next YouTuber I’ll be telling you about is someone who I have been watching for the longest time and who I still to this day consider my favorite. Her name is Connie Glynn, also known as Noodlerella. Now I’ll understand if her content might not be for everyone, for me it really is a matter of personal preferences. I will, of course, still try to convince everyone to watch her videos since she deserves all the support she gets, actually she deserves more than she gets. The kind of videos she makes do vary a lot, but she is mostly known for her impressions videos. She has made various impression videos, the majority of them being cartoons or Disney related since she is a big fan of both of those. Her most popular video is a Disney impressions one in which she sings and does impressions of every female Disney character there is, I’ll link this one down bellow. I will be keeping this pretty short since I could go ahead and say how amazing and talented all of these YouTubers are, but by watching any of their videos that’ll already be quite obvious and I don’t see any point in saying the exact same things over and over again(even though Connie is wonderful and you should definitely watch her videos).

 

I originally planned to write about five YouTubers, but I realized that what I said above about repeatedly saying the same things about all of those people will be more of an issue when I write about more YouTubers. So last, but not least I will write something about Emma Blackery. I’ll have to tell you that she does tend to swear a lot in her videos so if that’s not your cup of tea and/or you would get bothered by it I would recommend you to not watch them. Since Emma has three channels I will leave a link to a video of two of those channels below(I don’t watch one of them very often and I wouldn’t know what to recommend). On her main channel Emma makes many different types of videos for example: singing videos, skits, answering question videos and many other things. She is rather witty and sarcastic and if you say something nasty about her in the comments it will only backfire for you so I’d suggest not doing that. Other than that she is in fact really sweet, respectful and funny. She has a gaming channel called BirdyBoots which she uploads on almost everyday and you can clearly see she puts a lot of effort in these videos. Lastly, she has a make-up and advice channel called boxes of foxes. I don’t watch this one a lot, but if you like these kinds of things I’d say go ahead and watch them! 

This is all I have left to write. I’m hoping I convinced at least one person to watch any of these people, if so my job here is done and I’ll see you all in whatever the next project will be.

 

Essay task 4

For this assignment we had to write an essay about anything we like and/or know a lot about, so I decided to write about my favourite girl group: Fifth Harmony.

Fifth Harmony is an American girl group put together by Simon Cowell at the XFactor USA consisting from oldest to youngest out of: Ally Brooke Hernandez, Normani Kordei Hamilton, Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello and Dinah Jane Hansen.

I want to write about them because they really inspire me since they’ve made it so far already at such a young age. Now their first album Reflection came out it seems that they’re becoming even more well known. I think it’s wonderful how much they have grown since 2012.

They also inspire me because they’re not afraid to speak their minds and tell someone off when they’re being called out or when any of the other girls is insulted. I feel like that just shows how much confidence these girls have and how much they care about each other as best friends.

Their album really shows how much they support girl power and feminism through the lyrics and I think it’s great to have idols who realise the importance of that.

They are also very sweet and affectionate towards their fans, they even have one of their songs about the fans and how we should all feel like we’re worth it.

I don’t think I will ever find people more inspiring than these girls and the amount of words I was able to use was not enough to describe it.

Diary

DAY 1

Dear diary,

Today Mr Roll gave us a new assignment to do and let me tell you nobody really understood what we actually had to do.

He told us to read a book; The Animal Farm by George Orwell and we were assigned to choose a certain subject from the book and keep a dairy about that, of course this caused a lot of confusion.

As he began to explain how to do it I still didn’t understand it at all, even now I’m still trying to figure out what exactly I have to write about.

I ended up choosing to pay attention to and write about the chronology of the book and something else about ‘figuring out how the writer tries to pass over the book to the readers’ I forgot the name of the second thing but it had something to do with literature.

Now as I’m reading the book I noticed that the writer starts the book in the him-person, I guess he chose to do that so he could explain the characters in the book and give a little introduction about them.

 

DAY 2

Hi there Diary,

The next pages I have read were page 7 to 11, even now the writer still hasn’t changed the point of view, I think it won’t ever change in the book since there are a lot of animals with different thoughts on the rebellion and I guess it would be confusing to keep on changing to different views and in this way he can imply the thoughts of all the animals very well.

As for what is said about the time and days, there are a few things that I read about it.

For example he said that the animals have worked all through the summer on the farm with the exception of not working on Sundays.

It is now summer in the book while they said it was winter a few pages ago so that means some time, months even, have passed since then.

It has also been said that throughout the summer the horse named Boxer had worked the hardest since he worked from morning to night and that the cat would vanish for hours and only come back at meal time or in the evening after work.

 

DAY 3

Hey again Diary,

I tried to read page 12 to 16 in class but since everyone was talking it took me a lot of effort to concentrate so I decided to re-read it at home.

It is said that late summer and October have already passed in the book which means that again the writer must have skipped a few unnecessary months so that he could move the story a little more.

I don’t think that the writer made the right decision by skipping so many months between the chapters and pages since it makes me lose interest in the book because I prefer to read everything that happens every day so it seems as if the writer has the creativity to fill in every day of the book without boring the reader.

DAY 4

What’s up Diary,

I decided to change my subject somewhat, but I’m going to keep chronology.

instead of the second thing I decided to pay attention to the question: what keeps me interested in the story and what makes me want to continue reading the book?

The first thing that made me want to continue reading was the fact that Mollie has been acting weird ever since the start of the rebellion and that she has been missing a few times before, I was curious about why she is like this

That detail made me want to continue reading the book to figure it out some more.

in the beginning of chapter V it has been stated that winter has drew on while the last time they said something about the time it was early October which means only 1 month or so has passed.

after that they said that three days later Mollie disappeared and has been gone for weeks, this doesn’t tell much about which month or year it is at the moment but as stated in the next paragraph it is already January.

DAY 5

Hello Diary,

Today I have read VI which starts out by saying that the animals have worked like slaves all year, that implies that it has been a year since the last time they harvested their crops.

In the next paragraph it is said that they worked a sixty-hour week throughout spring and summer and that in August Napoleon decided that they should work on Sundays too.

A few pages later it is said that Autumn has also already passed and that it is November already by now.

As what kept me reading is that the windmill, which they had made last year, was destroyed and since Napoleon and Snowball had a major fight about which one of them is the true leader, Napoleon of course suspects Snowball as the culprit.

 

DAY 6

Hi Diary,

As I’m reading chapter VII it is still winter and later on it is said that it would be January by now, since it had been a bitter winter it didn’t go well with the crops and the food fell short.
A few paragraphs later it is towards the end of January and they’ve come to a conclusion that they might need to get food from somewhere else.

Later on it is said that in early spring they had discovered that Snowball was secretly frequenting the farm by night and stole and broke a lot of things at the farm, but I’m not sure if this is true or not since Napoleon is the one who rumored all those things about Snowball and since Napoleon hates Snowball it could be that he is just making things up.

DAY 7

hello Diary,

today I’ve read chapter VIII of the book and it is said that throughout the year the animals have worked harder than they have the previous year which again implies that a year has passed since last summer, I’m pretty sure in the last chapter it was spring so that means it hasn’t fully been a year since the last harvest but it is pretty close to a year.

the thing that kept me reading is that I’m wondering how the animals are feeling about all the control that Napoleon has over them and if they really feel like Napoleon is a true leader or if they’re just scared of getting executed by him.

I really want to find out how they deal with the fact that Napoleon is actually taking advantage of his leadership and does not seem to care much about the others anymore, I also want to know if the rumours about Snowball are true or if Napoleon keeps making those things up.

DAY 8

Heey Diary,

Today I have read chapter IX in which it is stated to be winter, a winter as cold as last one so said, this made life hard for the animals and they were short on food again.

I feel like the time in the book is getting stated less and less as the story develops, this makes it hard for me to write about it so now I’m going to tell again about what keeps me reading.

First thing that interested me was how Boxer is still trying to work outstanding hard and because of him fighting Frederick and his men he got hurt really badly but even now he is still trying to work harder.

As soon as I read about Boxer being taken away to the slaughterhouse I got pretty sad and I didn’t want to read any further since Boxer was the most interesting character in my opinion.

DAY 9

Dear Diary,

Today I have read chapter X of the book which is the last chapter.

Right in the beginning of the first paragraph it is written in bold letters that years have passed and seasons came and went and it is also said that a time came that no one even remembered the old days before the rebellion except for a few animals.

I guess you could say that it has probably been quite a lot of years since the beginning.

later on it is said that they believe that some day the will reach their goal they had with the rebellion and even thought they do not know if it would be soon or within the life time of the animals that are now living, but they know they will get there once.

The thing that kept me interested in reading the last few paragraphs of the book was that I wanted to know what happened to all the animals that weren’t dead nor forgotten and how they are now and I thought it was interesting to read how throughout the book a lot of things changed in the aspects of the animals and how they looked upon things differently.

This is the end of my diary and this assignment I hope whoever read this enjoyed it and even though I didn’t like this task I think I still learned a lot from it.

Script (task 2)

I had to watch three English or American films for this assignment and after that I have to make a vlog about my opinions on the films, the films I had chosen to watch are: The Shawshank Redemption, Back to the Future and Inception.

I’ll be giving my opinion on each one of them and I will compare them with each other.

First off is The Shawshank Redemption, a very well made film about the life of prisoners in Shawshank State Penitentiary.

I had only chosen to watch this one because it was the highest rated film on the top 250 list on IMDb.

I sadly did not like it very much due to the fact it was too long-winded and it was the same thing all over again.

I watched it in parts because it is a pretty long film and I couldn’t really concentrate on nor pay attention to watching it.

I also did not like the fact that it took so long for the film to make process in the storyline, for me it only became more interesting towards the end, when the protagonist, Andy who was convicted for murdering his wife, tried to escape and succeeded.

But what I did think that was very impressive about the film was the great acting they did, it made it feel a lot more realistic since the actors could actually sympathize their roles very well.

Another thing I did like about it was Morgan Freeman’s well done voice over as his role of Red, an inmate who became good friends with the protagonist and who also has been convicted for murder a long while ago.

Moving on to the next film I watched which was Back to the Future, in my opinion a funny but non-realistic film.

As for this film I actually did really enjoy watching it, since it is about a teenage boy who accidently travels back in time some sort of time machine car.

I like how to film surprises you with all of the crazy things that are happening there but there is a thing that I didn’t like about the film which is how everything always ends up to be just fine, everything seems to happen just in time and nothing seems to really go wrong.

I can understand why because this film was made for a somewhat younger audience.

Putting all of that aside it is a great film and no wonder that even now it is still pretty popular.

The last film I watched was Inception, my personal favorite from the ones I watched.

It is about a man named Dominick Cobb who tries to steal secret information from someone with his team by going into their dreams using some sort of military technology.

The title of the film is actually what the whole film is about since inception in this film means planting an idea into the targets subconscious, this is a very difficult process and they’re not sure if it is even possible.

I liked that this film is very original and different from most films, I have never heard of something even close to this before.

Another thing I really liked about it was that it is a fairly difficult film to understand and that you really have to pay a lot of attention to it, what made it that difficult was that you don’t really know whether they are in dream state or if they are in the real world, the even eventually end up being in three dreams, that is a dream in a dream in a dream.

But the thing that amazed me the most about it was the special effects that the film had, it was really impressive how real everything looked, it seemed like it could just jump out of the screen any minute it sometimes even shocked me because of how into the film I was.

For example when in the dream state a building crumples or when the world starts to fall apart it looks so real like it wasn’t even special effects but it really happened.

As for the acting I thought that it was really well done since they seemed to be the person instead of acting them.

And lastly what I liked about it was that it wasn’t all about action and excitement, it also had some sad parts about the memory of the deceased wife of the main character which is the reason for a lot of his missions failing since he keeps seeing her in the dream state and the fact that her dead was indirectly caused by him that keeps him from being with his children since everyone thinks that he murdered her.

All of those sad things make the film even more interesting and worth to watch in my opinion for the reason that it keeps the story going.

I would really recommend this film to anyone who would be interested in a story like this.

Now onto comparing those three films with each other.

Even though all of these films are very different from each other there is still a thing that they have in common which is that in every one of these films there are people who made some life changing mistakes, while in The Shawshank Redemption the main character hasn’t made a big mistake, most of the other inmates and even some wardens did make mistakes.

As for Back to the Future the main character made a huge mistake by going back in the time of his parents and almost ruining not only his, but his whole family’s life.

In Inception the protagonist made a mistake that would haunt him forever as he indirectly caused her committing suicide by making her believe she was still in the dream world instead of in the real world.

They are also about finding solutions to problems and trying to figure out how to do so.

There is another thing that those films have in common which is that all of them are about working together as a team with friends or the people you trust the most.

It is hard to say which film would be the best and I don’t think you can say because all of these films have such different story lines and all of them have something else that makes them unique or that makes them stand out and whether you would like The Shawshank Redemption the best or that you would think that Inception is the most amazing and outstanding film or perhaps you would say that Back to the Future is the most well-made, in the end it is all a matter of opinion and everyone has a different thought on that, which is great.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Interpretive argument

Rock music, you love it or you don’t it’s a matter of taste and everyone has their own opinion on it. But what is rock music exactly?

Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as “rock and roll” in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has its roots in 1940s’ and 1950s’ rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources.

Rock music has many subgenres, a few popular genres nowadays being: indie-rock, punk rock, pop rock, heavy metal, grunge, hard rock, Goth and alternative rock. Those are just a little amount of the very many subgenres rock music has.

This was just the introduction of my essay I’ll now be writing an interpretive argumentation about the genre rock music and I’ll be giving my opinion about the songs I chose to listen to.

 

The first song I listened to was Killer Queen by the one of the most well known rock bands in history, Queen.

I found it pretty hard to figure out what the song was about, but in the end I think I got the picture. I think that the song is about a chic and majestic girl which he describes as ‘a queen’ and because she is that elegant he can’t have her.

I liked the song, not because of the meaning, because the first time I listened to it I didn’t understand it at all but I liked it because of how everything fitted so good together, the sound of the piano together with his voice made the song sound really great.

I honestly wouldn’t ever have listened to this song if it wasn’t for this essay and I personally won’t list it as my favourite song on my list but it still is such a good song by a wonderful band.

 

One of my favourite songs I listened to is Songbird by the British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, it is from their album Rumours.

The song doesn’t have many lyrics but it is still such a great song with a beautiful meaning.

I think that this song is about loving someone so much that you would do everything for them and that you’ll always be there for that one person.

It makes me feel like there is someone out there for every single one of us, you just have to wait for the right moment to come.

The song makes me feel happy and relaxed because the voice of the singer is really beautiful and relaxing, the meaning behind it also caught my attention and lastly what I like about this song is that it is so calm and different from many other rock songs that are pretty aggressive.

This song together with Go Your Own Way is definitely my favourite song by Fleetwood Mac.

The next song I listened to was Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac.

As I stated earlier, this is one of my favourite songs on my list.

I feel like this song is about someone who knows that loving this one person isn’t right but they can’t help them self.

And even though the other person is already moving on, you just can’t get out of the love web you have been caught in.

I really like the rhythm of this song, it makes me feel like I can completely drift away into my own world.

 

Another song I listened to is Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.

I think that the song is about a couple who are having a really tough time at the moment, but they know that they will make it so they won’t give up hope.

I really like the song not only because of the beat but also because of the meaning.

This song really gives you the idea that even if you have nothing, you can still make it somewhere in life if you keep your head up.

I also like the fact that this song makes you want to dance and sing along.

The last song I will interpret is You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi.

I guess that this song is about a girl who treats her many partners very badly and promises them things but never makes them true. The girl gives love a bad name since she only breaks hearts and puts all those guys she dated through hell.

I really like the rhythm and melody of this song it makes me feel pretty happy

I will probably listen to this and many other Bon Jovi songs again since he is such a great artist and is very talented.

 

I will now summarize my argument by giving my opinion about rock music and what I thought about this essay.

I feel like old rock music is pretty underestimated despite it being on of the best in my opinion, most of the time people only listen to today’s pop music and don’t even recognize how good old rock music is. I thinks that’s really sad.

I hope that the people who are reading this will take the time to listen to at least one of the songs on my list and will understand how important this music is.

I’m glad that some of the bands/singers on my list still perform and make music nowadays, for example Bon Jovi, it is great that it still exists.

I liked writing an essay about rock music because it made me listen to so many great songs that I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for this and even though it took me a lot time, it was still worth it.
